Know Before You Load

What Cannot Go in a Rented Dumpster?

Most household junk, furniture, and construction debris are fine to load into a rented dumpster, but a handful of materials are restricted, and knowing them ahead of time saves you from a hassle on pickup day.

The Restricted List

What Cannot Go In, and Why

Hazardous Waste

Anything classified as hazardous waste is banned from landfills nationwide, not just in New Braunfels. This includes materials that are flammable, toxic, corrosive, or reactive. If you are not sure whether something falls into this category, ask us before loading it.

Paint, Chemicals, and Solvents

Leftover paint, household chemicals, cleaning solvents, and similar liquids cannot go into a dumpster. Many local hazardous waste collection programs accept these items separately.

Batteries and Electronics

Batteries, including car batteries and many household batteries, along with electronics like old televisions and computers, are restricted from standard dumpster disposal due to the materials inside them.

Tires

Tires are banned from most landfills and require separate disposal through a tire recycling facility or a retailer that offers take back service when you buy replacements.

Refrigerators and Appliances With Refrigerants

Refrigerators, freezers, air conditioning units, and any appliance containing refrigerant require special handling to safely remove the refrigerant before disposal.

Why These Restrictions Exist

These rules come from guidelines set by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, designed to keep hazardous materials out of standard landfills where they could contaminate soil or groundwater near the Comal and Guadalupe watersheds. This applies across every dumpster size we offer.

Where It Should Go Instead

What to Do With Restricted Items

  • Hazardous chemicals and paint: many counties offer periodic household hazardous waste collection events
  • Electronics: many retailers and dedicated recycling centers accept old devices, sometimes at no cost
  • Tires: most tire retailers take old tires for a small fee when you purchase new ones
  • Appliances with refrigerants: many appliance retailers offer haul away service when delivering a replacement
